Farewell 2011

Bygone year, almost all the 365 numbers of days are certainly red rounded in calendar as awesome and sad days in the tide of time, at least on the part of our nation. 2OII, a pack of cards, marked by sign of panic such as ruthless drought, which broke down the agrarian community in Odisha to be followed by an untimely flood, washing away the little laughter, left on the lips of the poor Odias. Top brasses brought shame to our country by putting them behind the bar, being caught, red handed by CBI, while busy in taking air from 2G spectrum. Wrongdoings of the bureaucrats and lust of the corrupt politicians in power had composed the ugly rhyme i.e. the ‘MINING SCAM’ in Odisha, hyped by media as the biggest sleaze during the millennium. Said quarters, in connivance with the mafias are the only beneficiaries of the much talked mineral theft, causing the miseries of common citizens. Eaters of uncountable money are enjoying lives as VIPs, where as miniatures and part time practitioners are nabbed in an eye washing government exercise. The vulnerable lorry drivers, their helpers, motor parts vendors, motor mechanics, tyre sellers, road side air check stationers and dhabba owners along with their staff and most importantly, the innocent mine labourers are on the verge of death owing to the abrupt closure of the mining activities in the state in apprehension of enquiry. Fire in a hospital at Kolkata was a cruel crackdown on the bedridden patients. Shrilling quake had shattered the earth in north east provinces. In the tale ending part of the AD, ‘Thane’ caught hold of the southern region, claiming lives of many at Pondy and other south spots. Excruciating, indeed. Dear brothers and sisters, let’s dream for a bright new year with blissful prosperity and wonderful development. Unity in diversity is our national spirit. 2012 should torch the dirt of communal antipathy and meanness from our society. Men at high places should learn integrity and honesty as well. Commoners should take pleasure of the great 2012 as a year of them to be recorded in the annals in future. Let the hymn echo, Sarbe bhabantu sukhinah, Sarbe santu niramayah….
